FAQS

HOW DO I GO ABOUT ORDERING A CUSTOM PIECE?

The first step to ordering a custom piece is to contact Taylor via phone or email. After a conversation or two, he will supply you with a quote. If you decide to move forward, the design process will begin and you will work together to settle on the final design of the piece. Photographs and sketches will both be utilized to help ensure you will be pleased with the final product. Before materials are ordered and work can commence, a contract will be drafted and signed by the client and Taylor. In most instances, half of the cost of labor plus the entire cost of materials is due before labor begins. The second half of labor is due at delivery.

IS IT FREE TO GET A QUOTE?

A conversation is always free, which would include an initial, ballpark quote. Before a final quote can be settled upon, however, Taylor will work together with the client to create a custom design. There is a minimum design fee of $200 for this part of the process which includes sharing pictures and sketches drafted by Taylor until a design meets the client's satisfaction. This fee is lumped in with the total cost if the client moves ahead with the project or due upon receipt of the final design.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO RECEIVE MY CUSTOM FURNITURE?

There is no set rate at which Taylor is able to take an order, build the item and turn around to deliver it. Usually from the first point of contact with a client to the delivery can take anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months. Timeframe depends on many variables including how many projects are in line ahead of yours, how long the design process ends up taking, the size complexity of the build, and if the delivery is in state or out of state. Please inquire for more detailed explanation regarding this point.

WHAT TYPE OF FINISH DO YOU PUT ON FURNITURE?

Taylor uses a variety of products to finish his work. He prefers an oil and wax finish as it maintains the original hue of the wood and keeps it protected, yet allows the wood's natural characteristics to shine through. For certain projects, he may instead utilize shellac or varnish, depending on the purpose of the piece and desire of the client. As a rule, Taylor steers clear of stains unless working on a built-in piece that must match existing woodwork. Hardwoods in their natural state are exquisitely beautiful and it's Taylor's goal to enhance, never cover, that natural beauty.
